Mattoon’s Lily Ghere has been named an all-state girls soccer player by the Illinois High School Soccer Coaches Association (IHSSCA), and teammate Faith Niebrugge was selected to the all-sectional team along with Charleston’s Delaney Meister.
Ghere scored 37 goals and assisted on 42 more this past season while Niebrugge ends her career as the school’s all-time leading scorer with 122 goals after scoring a season-record 44.
Ghere, an all-stater last season as well, is the school’s all-time assist leader with 69 after having assisted on 42 this past season, helping Mattoon outscore opponents 131-29 in winning a record 19 games against six losses.
Mattoon also set school records for goals, assists (113), and shutouts – 13 by goalie Avery Smith.
Ghere and Niebrugge were also first-team Apollo selections for the Green Wave, who finished the conference in second place.
