Collin Patterson collected two hits, but Charleston managed only one other in a 9-2 loss to Effingham in a Class 3A regional semifinal Thursday afternoon in Effingham.
Patterson finished the season hitting. .394 with a .500/.592/1.092 slash line.
Fourth-seeded Effingham advances to play ninth-seeded Mattoon, a 4-2 winner over top-seeded Marion, at 11 a.m. on Saturday in Centralia.
Effingham, which led 3-0 before rain delayed the game Wednesday night after one inning of play, scored three more in the third inning Thursday and were never threatened.
Charleston finishes 16-10, while Effingham improves to 16-12.
