Charleston’s Sam Schuette added another honor to his resume Monday, earning a place on the Illinois High School Football Coaches Association’s all-state team.

Schuette, an All-Apollo Conference first-team selection on both offense and defense, was named to the Class 5A team as an honorable mention as a defensive back after a season in which he had a team-high six interceptions for the 4-2 Trojans.

Schuette also had 34 tackles and forced three fumbles, recovering two.

“Sam has been a leader for the last two years,” CHS coach Jerry Payne said. “He worked very hard and I am glad to see his hard work acknowledged like this. We had a good season and Sam was a big part of our success. He would be the first person to remind us that it was a team effort, but it is nice to see one of my players get awarded for their hard work.”

Schuette, a 6-foot-1 senior, has committed to play football at Wisconsin-Platteville next fall.
