Mallory Ramage sank a free throw with six seconds left and the Green Wave then made a defensive stop to secure a 44-43 victory over host Mt. Zion on Thursday night.

Ramage’s free throw completed a second-half turnaround for Mattoon, which trailed 27-19. After allowing 21 points in the second quarter, the Green Wave limited the Braves to only 16 total points in the second half.

Tied at 43 in the final seconds, Ramage made a free throw to put the Green Wave ahead.

Mt. Zion inbounded the ball and dribbled past half court before calling a timeout with three seconds remaining. Mattoon then forced the Braves to take an errant shot to earn the victory.

Ramage finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Teammate Faith Niebrugge snared eight rebounds, scored seven points, had three assists and two steals.

Mattoon improved to 7-5.
