Jenaya Carter clocked in at 8.38 seconds to take sixth in the 60 meters while Mattoon’s Maya Cook heaved the shot 9.8 meters, or roughly 32 feet, 8 inches, for seventh among 47 competitors in that event at Wednesday’s Normal West Girls Indoor Invitational.
Several Mattoon runners posted season-bests in the 30-team event at Illinois Wesleyan.
“We have a lot of girls doing multiple things and are handling it very well,” Mattoon coach Troy Haacke said.
Mickenze Schofield dropped 30 seconds in the 1,600 meters from last week, finishing 13th among 38 competitors in 6 minutes, 3 seconds. Schofield also teamed with Kylie Haacke, Grace Niemeyer and Quincy Collings to drop 23 seconds from their time in the 4 x 800, clocking in at 10:59.89 to finished 11th among the 18 relay squads.
“Another good meet,” Troy Haacke said, “The girls continue to improve. It’s fun and rewarding to watch them improve.
