Frankie Izard drove in six runs, scored five and went 5-for-8 as the No. 16 Lake Land College softball team swept Lincoln Trail College, 10-2 and 13-2, on Tuesday afternoon.
In the opener, the Lakers (21-4) broke the game open in the fourth inning when they scored four runs on a two-run single by Izard and run-scoring hits by Kyrsten Darrough and Kaitlyn Scheitler, increasing their lead to 6-0. Lincoln Trail scored two in the fifth, only to be answered by four more Lakers runs that made it 10-2.
Izard led three Lakers, earning multiple hits with a 4-4 game. She scored three runs and knocked in five while also stealing two bases. Darrough and Scheitler had two hits apiece.
Rachel Kaufman threw the complete game, throwing five innings giving up two hits and no earned runs. She also struck out five. The loss was charged to Lexie Simmons, giving up six runs on 10 hits in four innings.
In the second game, the Lakers scored 13 runs in the first and third innings to cruise to the 13-2 win in five innings once again. In the first inning, five different Laker hitters knocked in runs, led by doubles by Scheitler and Amaya Eubanks. Scheitler capped off the scoring two innings later with a two-run homer run, giving the Lakers the 13-0 lead after three complete innings. The Statesmen would score two unearned runs the rest of the way. Macy Clark earned the win.
Scheitler, Kali Husman, and Eubanks eached had two hits. Lincoln Trail only managed two hits, while committing four errors. In the win, Clark threw 4.1 innings, with two unearned runs allowed. She also struck out three.
