Lake Land College learned it would face Northern Arkansas in the first-round of the NJCAA Division II Womens Basketball Tournament during a viewing party at the Lakers Fieldhouse on Tuesday.

The Lakers (30-3), ranked No. 6 in the final regular season poll in late February, knocked off both No. 5 Lincoln Land and No. 9 Illinois Central in the Region 24 tournament to earn their spot in the national event set to start in Port Huron, Michigan, on March 17.

“It’s just gratifying to see the kids get rewarded for their hard work,” said Lake Land coach Dave Johnson, who team won a record number of games.

Lake Land plays its first game against No. 13 Northern Arkansas at 10 a.m. CST on Wednesday, March 18. The winner of that game advances to an Elite Eight game against the winner between No. 5 Bryant & Stratton and No. 12 Wake Tech at 7 p.m. CST on Thursday, March 19.

The final four will be played Friday and the national title game the following day.

“It’s pretty incredible,” said Lakers guard Carsyn Fearday, the team’s leading scorer at 15.4 point a game.
