Abrienne Lee tossed the first no-hitter of her Lakers career in a 17-1 win over Andrew College on Friday afternoon.
An error allowed the lone run in the third inning.
Lake Land College softball once again exploded for double-digit runs in two games, defeating Wallace State–Hanceville, 13-12, in the second game.
Leading the way offensively was Lee, going 3-4 with two RBI. Sidney Beier finished 2-3 with two runs and an RBI while Krysten Darrough continued her hot start hitting a triple in a 2-3 effort. The final Laker with multiple hits was Katie Nicholson, getting two hits and scoring a run. The Lakers scored in all four innings they batted. On the mound, Lee threw five innings, striking out five, walking two, and needed only 86 pitches to finish off Andrew College.
Against Wallace State – Hanceville the Lakers jumped out early, trailed twice and then pulled out a thrilling 13-12 win. The teams combined for 22 hits.
Trailing Wallace State 9-3 entering the fourth inning, the Lakers offense scored seven runs on a three-run double by Mackensie Brown, scoring hits by Kaufman and Kaitlyn Scheitler and a sac fly by Tyanna Graber for a 10-9 lead.
Once again, Wallace State would take the lead in the next inning, scoring two runs both unearned were scored due to an error and a passed ball. The Lakers would answer back quickly in the top of the sixth with a Scheitler triple that drove in Kaufman and a two-run homer by Graber, giving the Lakers the lead for good. Kaufman retired Wallace State in order in the seventh to notch the win.
Scheitler led the way on offense going 4-4, with three runs and three runs batted in. She hit two triples. Darrough collected two hits. Kaufman earned the win, giving up nine hits, nine runs (seven earned), striking out two and walking two in five and a third innings.
The Lakers (6-2) play three games today.
