Mattoon’s Mallory Ramage scored 21 points and the Green Wave limited host Urbana to five points in the final quarter to record their 20th win of the season Thursday night, 49-39.
Ramage hit two 3-pointers, as did teammate Jordan Sapp, who scored nine points.
Mattoon took a 19-12 lead in the opening quarter that it never relinquished. Urbana closed to 40-34 after three quarters before the Green Wave (20-3) clamped down, allowing only five points in the final quarter.
“Urbana made some runs and we answered with runs of our own,” Mattoon coach Amanda Aydt said. “I thought we moved the ball really well on offense and had some great shots. We played excellent team defense and got stops when we needed to.”
Lily Ghere hit three 3-pointers and scored 13 points while teammate Chloe Pruitt added 11 to lead the JV team to a 50-27 victory over Urbana to improve to 8-5.
