Lake Land defeated another ranked team by more than 20 points Wednesday night in Peoria.
The Lakers women, who had already routed ranked Parkland and Moraine Valley squads earlier this season, took an early lead and rolled past Illinois Central, 77-56, as well.
The Lakers (17-2), who are ranked No. 9 in the latest NJCAA II poll, shot 52% to beat the Cougars, who are ranked No. 7.
Lake Land jumped out to a 22-8 first-quarter lead, built it to 40-21 by halftime and were never threatened in the second half. The Lakers led by 25 entering the final quarter.
Carsyn Fearday scored a game-high 27 points on 9-of-14 shooting, nearly twice her 15.6 points average. Fearday, who is ranked fourth nationally in 3-point percentage, made five of six 3-pointers. She added two steals.
Arie Sims added 12 points and four rebounds and Abby Weis had 11 points. Tre’soir Newson, meanwhile, registered eight points, seven steals, five assists and four rebounds.
“I felt we set the tone early with a strong defensive first quarter,” Lake Land coach Dave Johnson said. “I also thought that Carsyn (Fearday) had an outstanding effort tonight.”
ICC dropped to 12-6.
Lake Land next plays host to Southwestern Illinois College at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
