Charleston senior Caleb Oakley signed Monday to play basketball at Lake Land College next season.

Oakley averaged 14 points, three rebounds and three assists last season in earning first team all-Apollo status. He was also named to the Effingham/Teutopolis Christmas Tournament team.

Charleston, 13-15 overall, finished tied with Mahomet-Seymour for third place in the conference with a 6-6 record.

“He is leaving behind big shoes to fill for our returners with his production on the court as a scorer, defender and leader,” said CHS boys basketball coach AJ Alexander. “Going into my third season with the program, Caleb’s dedication to this program was one-of-a-kind and he laid the groundwork for turning the Charleston boys basketball program around.“

Oakley made a team high 63 3-pointers for Charleston last season.

Lake Land coach Julian Larry said his team struggled to make 3-pointers last season. The Lakers averaged only five per game and converted 32.5 percent overall.

“Caleb is a sharp shooter that can put the ball in the hole,” Larry said. “Great character. Great family. And a great person.“

Larry led the Lakers to their second straight winning record last season, going 17-15, after having struggled for several years before he took over the program.
