After a tough stretch of road games, the Lake Land women’s basketball team gets a chance to play at home. The team’s home opener will feature a former conference foe in Olney Central Community College.

Opponent’s Past Results: Olney opened up the season with two losses. That included an 88-61 defeat to Southern Arkansas University and a 93-58 defeat to Three Rivers Community College. The team recently defeated Missouri Babtist JV 100-56.
Olney’s Top Players: Gracie Shorter, a 5-foot-6 freshman guard, leads the team in points with 19.0 per game. Shorter is shooting 43.8% from the field and takes about 16.0 shots per game. She is the only double-digit scorer on this team. Jocelyn Hall, a 6-foot-2 sophomore, leads the team with 5.3 rebounds. There are three players averaging at least 5.0 rebounds per game. Lake Land’s Past Results: Last weekend, Lake Land participated at the Triton Dan Hull Memorial Classic and picked up two blowout victories. That included a 76-49 victory over Triton College where Lexi Niebrugged scored 28 points to lead the Lakers, while Olivier Niemerg added a double-double of 12 rebounds and 10 assists. The team blew past Moraine Valley Community College 72-46 with Niemerg leading the way with 11 points and 12 rebounds, while Katelyn Littleton added 10 points.

What Lake Land Said: “We have the ability to play at a high level,” said head coach Dave Johnson. “Our main focus right now is working to play at that level for 4o minutes. Olney has played two very good teams. Three Rivers is one of the most explosive offensives in the nation. We just need to continue to be able to play fast without turnovers and I think we can continue to score. We are hoping for a huge crowd to play the first home game. We scheduled on Friday in hopes of having a full house.
