Mattoon girls soccer lost on a free kick in the second overtime to Mascoutah in the IHSA Regional.

Neither team scored in the 80-minute regulation.

“Both teams had a few good chances to score,” MHS coach Ryan Ghere said, “but neither could find the net.

Piper Sanders scored six minutes into the first 10-minute overtime to give the Green Wave the lead.

During the second overtime, Mascoutah scored twice. Both goals were on free kicks just outside the Mattoon penalty box.

Marley Vanholven nearly scored on a chance in the final minute.

Averie Smith had eight saves in goal for the Lady Wave.

Mattoon ends its season with a record of 19-6.

“I couldn’t be more proud of this team, Ghere said. “The girls worked hard all year and improved each week. They gave it everything they had tonight. Our defense played great all night and didn’t give them many chances. It was a total team effort. We are going to miss these seniors. They have been great leaders for this program and I have really enjoyed coaching them. “
