Shae Littleford might have moved out of Coles County, but the spotlight has continued to follow her.
Littleford, a freshman guard for UT Martin’s women’s basketball team, was recently named the Ohio Valley Freshman of the Week for her performances against Austin Peay and Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville.
Littleford had a career week, averaging 15.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 4.0 steals in 39.0 minutes per game. She also shot 55% from the field, shooting 11 of 20 and making eight of 10 free throws.
“I’m settling into my role after an unpredictable start to the season and I’m excited for the rest of OVC conference play,” said Littleford. “We are getting a couple of injured players back so I think we will compete at a very high level this year.”
In a game at Austin Peay, she set a career-high in points with 16 points on five-of-nine shooting, while making six of seven free-throw attempts. She also had four rebounds, four steals, and three assists in the win to help the team snap a six-game losing streak.
Two days later, Littleford tallied 14 points, five rebounds, four steals, and one assist against SIUE.
This is the third OVC weekly honor for the Skyhawks this season.
UT-Martin is 4-9, including 1-1 in the conference.
In seven games played this season, Littleford is averaging 9.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 2.1 steals in 35.1 minutes per game.
Local fans will get a chance to see Littleford in action when UT-Martin comes to Charleston in February. Eastern Illinois will host UT-Martin on Saturday, Feb. 12 at 1 p.m.
