It’s all about fun for Makenna McBride.

And it’s been a fun season for the Charleston High School junior sprinter.

McBride qualified for the IHSA Class 2A state track meet set for O’Brien Stadium on Friday in the 100 meters after a second-place finish. Over the course of the season, McBride has never finished lower than second place in the 100.

“I am so excited because I’ve never actually made it to state before,” said McBride. “I’m just extremely grateful I have the opportunity.”

McBride’s seed time of 13.14 seconds is ranked 21st out of 23 contestants, but her season-best of 12.74 ranks 13th overall.

With no preliminaries this year, McBride is ready to bust out one more great time in her final race of the season.

“With the chaotic season we’ve had, there won’t be any preliminaries so we’re only running finals, which means I’ll have one chance to race,” said McBride. “I’m just going to do my best and have fun. From our very first meet, I made sure I kept my spirits high and made sure to have a positive mindset.”
