OLNEY – Lake Land’s baseball team extended their winning streak to seven games by sweeping Olney Community College Wednesday in two low-scoring games, 5-0 and 3-1 in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.

The Lakers are 27-24 overall and 10-16 in the GRAC. Olney is fourth in the nine team conference.

The first game went scoreless until the top of the seventh when Mattoon graduate Jacob Spitz drove in three runs on a triple with two outs to tie the score at five as Lake Land took advantage of four walks.

Keegan McCarty pitched all seven innings for the win, allowing four hits and no runs with three walks and 10 strikeouts. Jacob Walker drove in a run.

Lake Land only left two runners on base and had just three hits – Ryan Kiobassa and Jason Brulport had the other two.
The Lakers scored all three runs in the first inning and didn’t allow a run until OCC scored its run in the sixth.

Walker reached on an error, Oliver Dunn singled, With one out Andrew Erickson drew a base on balls to load the bases. Brody Macak walked, forcing in Walker and with two outs Nathan Gehrke singled , after Dunn scored on a wild pitch, and Erickson crossed the plate.

Kolby Pemberton pitched all eight innings allowing four hits on one run with no walks and eight strikeouts.
Lake Land plays host to Olney at noon Friday in a GRAC doubleheader.
