The No. 8 Lake Land womens basketball team used a 49-23 advantage in the second and third quarters to overcome a slow start on the way to an easy 87-53 victory over Kaskaskia on Wednesday night.
Lake Land improved to 24-3 overall, 13-2 in GRAC play.
Sophomore Arie Sims scored 11 first half points on the way to a game-high 15 total. Lucille Smith scored 11 points, while Carsyn Fearday added 10.
The Lakers jumped out quick with a 5-0 lead, but they would be outscored 15-7 the rest of the first quarter to trail 15-12 after one. They were able to slow get going, leading 33-26 at the half and 61-38 after three quarters on the way to the win.
