Charleston’s Ella Long brings the ball upcourt during Friday’s night game vs Cairo.

Let’s reset today’s busy basketball schedule that includes five local teams playing in four regional tournaments.

This morning, both Charleston and Mattoon play their final games in the Effingham-Teutopolis Christmas Clash. The Trojans will play Lawrenceville, which beat Mattoon, 75-72, in an 11:30 a.m. game that decides 13th and 14th place in the 16-team tournament. The Green Wave play Dixon at 10 a.m. to determine the final two spots. Both games will be played in the Effingham High auxiliary gym.

At noon, Charleston will play Teutopolis in a final pool play game of the Charleston Girls Holiday Tournament at Baker Gym. If the Trojans beat the Wooden Shoes, they’d likely play at 6 tonight. A loss sends them to the 4:30 p.m. game, likely against Danville. We’ll update the schedule on Facebook and Twitter through the day.

Mattoon will play in the championship of its annual Girls Holiday Basketball Tournament at 4:30 p.m. after Mallory Ramage hit a 3-pointer in the final seconds to send Altamonte on Friday night, 70-67. Mattoon (16-1) will face Olney (13-1) at the MHS Gym where action is to start at noon when Effingham St. Anthony plays Vandalia for seventh place.

Lake Land kicks off its three-day Laker Classic at 6 tonight, when the No. 16 Lakers take on John Wood College. The Lakers come into play 12-1, off a seven-day layoff, after having defeated Danville Area College last weekend.
