Mattoon fresh/soph football fumbled away possession in overtime in a 12-6 loss to Mahomet Seymour on Thursday night at Gaines Field in Mattoon.

Tied at 6 in regulation, Mahomet scored on its first possession when Wyatt Bohm hit Braden Houchin for a 5-yard touchdown pass. Mattoon (1-1) stuffed Mahomet’s two-point conversion attempt, but then lost possession of the ball on a fumble, which sealed the win for Mahomet (2-0).

In regulation, T.J. Owens threw six yards to Jordan Combs in the first quarter to give the Green Wave the early lead.

Mahomet responded in the second half after Bohm connected with Valient Walsh from five yards out for a score.

In this defensive battle, Christian Larson and Matt Gordon each had interceptions for the Green Wave.

Mattoon next plays at Mt. Zion next Thursday at 6 p.m.
