The Charleston girls soccer team finally came alive in the final minute of Thursday’s home Apollo Conference matchup against Mt. Zion, scoring twice in a 7-2 loss.

Mt. Zion dominated the first half of the game, scoring six unanswered goals. Mt. Zion would come out strong in the second half by scoring one before Charleston was able to slow them down. Charleston would have several shots on the goal.

The Charleston offense would find the goal in the final minute when senior Jordyn Kieffer took a shot that was dropped by the goalie giving senior Delaney Meister the opportunity to nudge it in the final foot.

The Trojans didn’t waste any time. With the final 30 seconds ticking down junior Ella Garret would also find the goal.

“We definitely had some energy in the second half,” said CHS coach Ali Gowin. “Obviously, we would have liked to have that in the first half too, but we got some energy and connected we kind of got in our groove, just a little too late.”
