Charleston completed a strong stretch of wrestling this past week. Charleston split a pair of Apollo Conference duals. Charleston defeated Taylorville 48-18 and lost a close match to Mount Zion 48-33.
Against Taylorville, Kenny Merrill (138) defeated Jed Hammill in a major decision 16-5. Lucas Ross, Morgan Smallhorn, Alaynia Bryant, Mackensie Williams, Alec Sellers, Charlie Gaines, and Stormy Hughes picked up wins via forfeit. Against Mount Zion, Lucas Ross (106) defeated Vinney Baker by fall (1:42). Alec Sellers (152) picked up a win over Carson Thorton in a decision 5-3. Marcellx Boling (195) defeated Brock Trump by fall (5:15) and Stormy Hughes (285) defeated Aiden Ledbetter by fall (2:30.
The following day, Charleston participated in the Eastern Illinois Tournament in Olney on Saturday. Kenny Merrill led the way with a third-place finish at 138 pounds. Alec Sellers also picked up a third-place finish at 152 pounds. Marcellx Boling was fourth at 195 pounds and Stormy Hughes was also fourth at 2985 pounds. Lucas Ross placed sixth at 106 pounds. With 76 team points, Charleston placed 8th out of 14 teams.
Charleston next competes in the Chatham-Glenwood Regional this Saturday.
