It’s going to be a lonely month at the MHS Gym for the boys basketball team.

The Green Wave’s last home game was Dec. 15,. The team will not play at home again until Jan. 31.

The stretch since Dec. 15 featured games against Mount Zion, Rantoul, the three-day Christmas Classic, Pana, and Charleston. 

The road trip continues with one game this week – at Mahomet-Seymour.

The Green Wave will play at the Springfield Litchfield Tournament next week, which could span four days, and, afterward, have game scheduled at Lincoln.

Opponent’s History: Ryan Bosch is in his fifth season as the head coach of the Bulldogs. He owns a combined 66-54 record with the team which includes leading the team to a Regional Championship last year with a 17-15 record. His previous years include records of 12-17, 21-11, and 10-4. Before Bosch, Chad Benedict spent 12 years with the team, going 203-147. 

Mahomet-Seymour’s Past Results: The Bulldogs began the season 2-4 but have battled back to around .500. The team’s Apollo wins include Mattoon (53-51), Charleston (58-44), Taylorville (74-52). Their losses are to Mount Zion (76-51), Effingham (50-44), and Lincoln (51-30). 

Mahomet-Seymour’s Top Players: The team returns future Illinois football prospect Wyatt Bohm. In the team’s matchup against Mattoon, Bohm scored 10 points. Bohm is averaging 10.1 and Dayten Eisenmann 9.8 points per game.

Mahomet-Seymour’s Team Stats:  The Bulldogs are averaging 52.6 points and allowing 54.4 points. 

Mattoon’s Past Results: Last week, Mattoon opened 2023 calendar with two losses – to Pana, 68-65, and to Charleston on Saturday, 56-40. In the team’s 53-51 loss to Mahomet-Seymour, Taeriek Grace led the Green Wave with 13 points. Christian Larson added 12 points and Blaine Powers scored 10.  

Mattoon’s Team Stats: The Green Wave are averaging 48.4 points and allowing 59.6 per game.
