Taerick Grace and Blaine Powers combined for 32 points to lead Mattoon to its first victory of the season, a 60-55 decision over Shelbyville on Tuesday night in boys basketball.
Grace scored 11 of his team-high 17 points in the second half while Powers hit two 3-pointers and made seven free throws en route to his 15 points.
Christian Larson snagged 16 rebounds and scored 10 points.
The Green Wave (1-8) next play host to Taylorville on Thursday night.

MHS girls lose to Taylorville in OT
Mattoon made a fierce rally in the final minutes of regulation but fell short in overtime during a 61-59 loss to Taylorville in girls basketball Tuesday night.
Buoyed by five 3-pointers in the fourth quarter, the Green Wave overcame an 11-point deficit with 3:30 left to play to take a two-point lead with 35 seconds.
Taylorville, though, tied the score and edged MHS, 8-6, in overtime.
Lily Ghere made three 3-pointers and scored 11 of her game-high 19 points in the fourth quarter and added three free throws in overtime.
“That four minutes was great basketball,” MHS coach Troy Haacke said. “We pressured their guards, creating turnovers, hit several 3s and played how we are capable of playing. It was fun to watch.”
Ghere, Emily Maple and Ella Conyers each made four 3-pointers in the game. Bella Masse knocked down two more.
Mattoon (4-5, 0-3 in the Apollo) next plays host to Mt. Zion on Friday night.
