The Mattoon wrestling team opened their season at the North/South duals at O’Fallon this weekend.  

Tristan Porter, Logan Blackburn, Korbin Bateman, Ben Capitosti, Aidan Blackburn, and Leo Meyer all went 3-0 on the day. Ean Freeman, Jason Skocy, TJ Owens, and JD Sullivan recorded their first varsity wins as well.  

As a team, the Greenwave finished 2-1 with victories over O’Fallon (57-24) and Collinsville (53-24) before losing to Edwardsville (45-34).  Logan Crist became the first girl to record a victory for Mattoon wrestling in an exhibition match.

“It was a great start to the season, but the team knows we have a lot to work on for the upcoming season,” said head coach Brett Porter. 

Mattoon varsity travels to Bethalto Civic Memorial for a tournament on Dec. 3 where individuals will look to earn medals.
