Charleston scored three goals in the final four minutes to break open a tight boys soccer game and defeat visiting Effingham 5-1 on Thursday night at Paul Stranz Field.

The Trojans led 2-1 with four minutes left in the game when Gavril Amartey received the ball at the left corner of the box and dropped it back to Brandon Jones, who lofted a shot over the keeper into the right side of the net for his third goal of the evening.

Two minutes later, Jay Buchter fouled in the box. Marshall Smith, subsequently, fired the penalty kick attempt into the back of the ne, making it 4-1

A minute after that, Buchter took the ball away from an Effingham player, beat the defense and fired a shot into the right corner of the goal for the final goal of the game.

Effingham had scored the first goal four minutes into the game. After Alex Dow headed the ball away outside of the box, an Effingham player lofted a shot that found the back of the net.

Five minutes later, Amartey passed across the box from the left corner, where Brandon Jones fired a shot with his left foot that found the bottom left corner of the net to the score at 1. 

Jones put CHS ahead 12 minutes into the second half when he took the ball away from an Effingham player at midfield, found open space and dribbled through the defense before beating the keeper on a one-on-one shot into the right side of the net.
