Charleston lost 5-0 on Thursday during a warm afternoon game against former Apollo Conference foe Newton in varsity softball action.
Newton started out strong when Addy O’Dell was able to score to put them up 1-0. Newton’s Allie Stanley would score in the top of the third to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead.
Newton scored two in the top of the fourth before Charleston coach Blain Mayhall pulled Kailyn Wilson from the mound and put in Addison Shrader to finish out the game.
A wild pitch that bounced out of the catcher’s glove allowed another run to put Newton ahead 5-0 in the fourth.
Newton improves to 22-7 and Charleston is now 22-6.
