Jacob Flight and Hannah Taylor won the Merv Baker Athletic Achievement Award sponsored by the Trojan Booster Club on Tuesday night.

Flight, a track and field athlete who competes in the hurdles, high jump, long jump, and triple jump, won the Apollo Conference triple jump title last week after leaping 41-04 feet.

The female recipient is Hannah Taylor, who competed as a Charleston Trojet and in track and field. At the state dancing competition this year, Taylor placed sixth among 44 competitors. In track, she competes in high jump, long jump, and triple jump.

In the Athletic Awards voted on by coaches, Ashton Fifield and Emma Amaya won the male and female athletic scholastic awards. Fifield and Amaya both compete in tennis.

Taylor won female athlete of the year. In the male category, there was a tie between Jaksen Braun and Kendall Pankey for athlete of the year.

Braun, a 6-foot-6 forward helped, and Pankey helped lead the Trojans to their best record (18-11) in more than a decade and a second-place finish in the conference. Braun was earned first-Apollo conference and third-team all-state honors. Pankey leads the baseball team in steals, runs scored and wins as a pitcher.

Braun was one of the core performers for the basketball team the past two seasons, and he also was a member of the golf team. Pankey was a strong contributor to the basketball team, and he is one of the key players for the Trojan baseball team.
