2020 Mattoon High School grad Kira Wolf is continuing her winning ways on the golf course.
Wolf, a sophomore at Illinois State University, helped the Redbirds win their first Missouri Valley Conference golf title since 2013. The Redbirds won the conference title by one stroke. Three of Wolf’s teammates finished All-MVC, while Breanne Hall was named MVC Coach of the Year.
The Redbirds finished the three-day tournament with a team total of 911, besting Missouri State by a stroke. The other scores: Drake (925), Bradley (945), Evansville (949), Indiana State (950), Southern Illinois (950), Loyola Chicago (957), Northern Iowa (970), and Valparaiso (1,005).
Wolf, who entered the second round as a substitute, finished with a 77, one of the better rounds on the team for that day.
Wolf transferred to ISU in the summer after playing her freshman year at the University of Minnesota. As a Gopher, she played one match. At Mattoon, the four-time state tournament qualifier had a decorated golf career, including a sixth-place finish in Class 2A her freshman year. That is combined with eight top-10 finishes on the Mid-American Junior Golf Tour circuit. In 2017, Wolf won the 2017 MAJGT University of Illinois Open. In 2018, she was the Illinois State Junior Amateur runner-up.
Now, the Redbirds await where they will be placed at the NCAA Regional. The Selection Show is set for April 27.
