Karah Moore struck out nine, allowed just one hit and also ripped a home run to lead Charleston past Urbana, 1-0, in girls softball Monday.
Kailyn Wilson and Clara Cox had the only other hits for the Trojans.
Like in Saturday’s game against Mattoon, Charleston converted another non-traditional double play during a decisive, late-inning situation — coming after Urbana had put runners on first and third in the seventh with no outs. Moore fielded a bunt and threw to Maci Mayhall at first base to get the batter, and she then fired the ball to the plate where Erin Blair tagged out the Urbana runner trying to tie the score. Moore induced a ground out to secure the final out and the victory.
