If you happen to turn your television to ESPN at 8 p.m. on Thursday, you might see a familiar face.
Drake Jeffries, the Mattoon High School graduate, is one of eight players nationally selected to the TaxAct Men’s 3-Point Championship roster for the 33rd Annual State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championship. The competition will take place at Xavier University of Louisiana’s Convocation Center in New Orleans.
A complete roster has not been released, but, so far, Jeffries will join Alfonso Plummer (Illinois), Sasha Stojakovic (Purdue), Brad Davison (Wisconsin) and Jordan Bohannon (Iowa) of the Big 10 Conference.
Jeffries is the first Wyoming men’s basketball player ever to compete in this event. He is the first Wyoming player to participate in any of these festivities since Reggie Slater participated in the Slam Dunk Contest in 1992.
Jeffries enjoyed a successful season at Wyoming, where he led the team in 3-point field goals (94), which was the third most for a single season in school history. He also shot 41% from beyond the arc. He set the school record for 3-pointers in a game with 11 against Hastings College.
