It was really her last chance and Mattoon’s Ryleigh Grayson took advantage of the opportunity.

At the Clinton Last Chance Indoor Meet, Grayson ran a 1:03.94 in the 400-meter dash, which was fast enough to qualify her for the Indoor Top Times state indoor track and field championships. Grayson will join teammate Maya Cook (above), who owns the second-best shot put mark in Class 2A, on Friday and Saturday at the Illinois Wesleyan-Shirk Center in Bloomington.

On the boys side, Brock Davee qualified for the 1,600 meter and the 4×800 relay with Sam Ferrar, Trent Hettinger and Quincy Hamilton.

At the Last Chance Invite on Monday, Grayson finished ninth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.00. She finished fourth for 400 meters. The 4×400-meter relay team of Makala Brown, CeZia Wade, Izzy Sanders, and Chloe Jobe finished eighth.

Cook had the best overall finish out of any Green Wave participant, throwing 10.31 meters for third overall.
