Springfield Southeast built an 11-point halftime lead and was able to hold off Charleston the rest of the way to win an IHSA Regional Class 3A semifinal boys basketball game in Decatur on Wednesday night.

Southeast (21-8) next faces Decatur MacArthur, a 77-59 winner over Decatur Eisenhower, in Friday’s regional sectional championship.

Charleston concluded its most successful season in more than a decade at 18-11. After going 2-12, the Trojans earned their first winning season in nine years and recorded their most wins since the 2005-2006 season.

Trailing 56-42 entering the final quarter, the Trojans chipped away a little – but not enough to overcome the 14-point deficit.

Jaksen Braun scored a team-high 16 points while William Applegate added 12 and Jackson Burgess had nine.
