Mattoon clamped down on another opponent Tuesday night in a 53-33 victory over host Shelbyville in boys basketball action.
The Green Wave, having allowed 38.8 points a game, gave up only two field goals in the second quarter and just six more points in the fourth quarter. This is the fourth time this season that MHS (6-3) has kept a team under 35 points.
The Green Wave held a 23-15 halftime edge before shooting better in the final two quarters in which they outscored the Rams (1-6) by a 30-18 margin.
Junior Christian Larson scored all of his game-high 16 points in the second half on three 3-pointers, two field goals and three-for-three at the free-throw line. Blaine Powers was also perfect from the FT line, making all six along with two 3-pointers for 14 points.
Sam Bradbury added another 11 points for the Green Wave.
Mattoon next travels to Taylorville on Thursday night.
