Mattoon’s Mallory Ramage, Lily Ghere and Faith Niebrugge were named to the Pana Holiday all-tournament girls basketball team after helping to lead the Green Wave into the championship game.
Mattoon, which beat Lincoln earlier in the tournament 54-45, could not recover from a 12-point halftime deficit in falling 56-48 on Saturday. The Green Wave outscored the Railsplitters 31-27 in the second half, but could not bridge the gap.
Ramage scored 20 points on 9-of-18 shooting and added five rebounds and three steals. Ghere made four 3-pointers and Niebrugge snagged three rebounds and four assists in the title game.
Lincoln’s Kloe Froebe scored a game-high 28 points.
Mattoon went 4-1 in the tournament to open its season.

MHS wrestlers split dual matches
Mattoon split two wrestling dual matches Saturday against two larger schools.
The Class 2A Green Wave, No. 23 in the state IWCOA preseason rankings, defeated O’Fallon 42-24 and lost to Edwardsville, which is ranked No. 25 in Class 3A.
Three Mattoon wrestlers won both their matches.
Senior Leo Meyer pinned an Edwardsville opponent in 53 seconds at 220 pounds and an O’Fallon wrestler in 1 minute, 30 seconds at 285.
Junior Logan Blackburn pinned an Edwardsville wrestler in 5:03 and then beat an O’Fallon wrestler 4-1 at 126 pounds.
Sophomore Korbin Bateman pinned an an Edwardsville wrestler in 29 seconds and then won 6-2 at 132 pounds.
Other MHS winners against O’Fallon: Mick Porter (5-2 at 138 pounds), Kiefer Duncan (pin in 18 seconds at 145), Aidan Blackburn (pin 3:34, 152) and Geoffrey McGahey (pin 1:47, 170).
CHS boys basketball finishes 3-1 in Paris tourney
Charleston could not withstand a second-half blitz by Mt. Zion in the final game of the Paris Boys Basketball tournament Friday.
The Trojans, who finished the tourney 3-1, were deadlocked with the Braves at 30 at halftime.
The Trojans had previously defeated Paris 56-43, South Vermillion, Ind., 53-37, and Georgetown 81-56 to outscore its opponents by 255-165.
Grady Smiley scored a team-high 12 points against Mt. Zion, followed by Will Applegate, who scored 11 against the Braves and another 16 against Paris.
Jaksen Braun and Applegate were named to all tournament team.
