The postseason for girls’ tennis will begin today. Both Mattoon and Charleston will attend the Class 1A Effingham St. Anthony Sectional.
Mattoon is coming off an Apollo Conference championship last week in which four of the six singles players made the championship game. The only Apollo Conference teams in the sectional are Mattoon, Charleston, and Effingham.
Teutopolis and Effingham St. Anthony appear to be the favorites to win the title.
As for state contenders, Caroline Davis and Annelise Overmyer capture the No. 1 doubles title during the first day of the Apollo tournament. Both appear to have a legitimate shot. As for Charleston, Maggie Goetten could play her way into contention as well.
The teams in the sectional are Casey-Westfield, Charleston, Effingham, St. Anthony, Hillsboro, Mattoon, Paris, Robinson, Shelbyville, and Teutopolis.
