Charleston girls swimming placed fifth in the 12-team Capital City Swimming & Diving Invitational in Springfield.
Delaney Goddard posted a personal best in taking sixth in the 500 free in 6 minutes, 29.1 seconds and she teamed with Mackenzie Erixon, Molly Webber and Ava Zheng to take fifth in the 400 free relay.
Erixon also placed sixth in the 200 individual medley in 2:33.05.
Lilly Zerbst (pictured above) placed third in the JV fly 50 while Alexis Gray took fourth in the JV breaststroke.
“Our first two meets were a dual and a tri-meet,” CHS swim coach Dwight Pentzien said. “This was our first invitational of the year. The atmosphere is a little more tense and certainly louder when you have 12 teams on a pool deck. Our girls did some things really well, but we also identified some things we can work on in practice that should allow us to continue to improve.”
