Landon Bell and Jonathan Brown paced Charleston Middle School to the boys championship in the Cumberland Raiders Invitational cross country meet Saturday morning.

Bell took ninth in 13 minutes, 41.34 seconds and Brown followed 2 seconds later for 10th, leading six CMS runners who finished in the top 20 among 67 runners in the nine-team event.

As a result, Charleston Middle recorded 62 points among its top five runners to easily top runner-up Jasper County Junior High by 29 points.

Moulton Middle’s Ryne Peavier and Warren Weekly took the top two spots in 12:16.68 and 12:17.46, respectively.

Gunnar Barr was the third CMS runner across the finish line, clocking in at 14:06.75 for 12th overall, followed by Hunter Grabiec (14:22.93, 15th) and Maddox Archibald (14:27.14, 18th).

Emma Karbassioon took seventh overall in the girls race, finishing in 14:28.15 for CMS, which placed eighth of nine teams. Maggie Englum finished eight spots back in 15:24.12 and Libby Weiss was 20th in 15:37.38.
