Mattoon’s Raven Morrison continued to dominate opposing batters Thursday night.
The senior right-hander scattered six hits and allowed only her third earned run in 30 innings to lead the Green Wave to a 4-2 victory over Casey-Westfield.
Morrison, whose earned run average is now 0.70, struck out four and did not walk a batter. She has walked only three batters all season but has fanned 32.
“Raven has been lights out on the mound,” Mattoon coach Hannah Dow said. “She has stepped into a very important role on the team and brings a lot of energy to the circle.”
Morrison also pushed across a run with a bunt in the third inning when the Green Wave went ahead for good at 3-1.
Delainey Bryant nearly hit for the cycle, ripping a single, double and triple to improve her average to .500 and slugging percentage to .722. The senior also scored twice and drove in one run.
“Delainey has been our solid leadoff and getting our offense going this year,” Dow said. “She is an all-around great player who gives it her all every single day.
Emma Longcur went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI, Ivie Edwards drove in a run and both Tinley Risinger and Xylia Greyson collected hits.
Mattoon (6-4) has gone 6-1 since losing its first three games. The team is batting .317 overall.
“Overall, our bats have been on fire and our dugout has shown up with a lot of energy,” Dow said. “We keep saying every day we have to bring that all-in mentality. We have to leave it all out on the field. No regrets.”
Mattoon travels to Effingham to play a doubleheader Saturday.
