The Lake Land softball team, after winning 16 straight, has moved into the NJCAA Division I rankings at the No. 20 spot.
The Lakers (20-4) will play at Wabash Valley in a Great Rivers Athletic Conference doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. Lake Land is in first in the GRAC at 8-0, while Wabash Valley is in second at 12-11 overall and 5-1 in the conference.
Tori Haug, a freshman from Commerce Colorado, is 18th in the nation in earned run average at 1.31, while Rachel Kaufman, a sophomore from Seymour, Indiana, is ninth in pitching victories. She is 10-3.
Freshman Claire Maulding is 35th in the nation at 7-0. Kaufman is ranked 20th for strikeouts with 73.
Lake Land is ranked 17th in runs scored with 220, 36th in home runs with 26 and 50th in batting average at .353.
Baseball splits with SE Illinois
HARRISBURG — Lake Land baseball split a Great Rivers Athletic Conference doubleheader with Southeastern Illinois College on Monday, winning 13-5 and losing 11-1. Lake Land won the series three games to one.
Keagan McCarty pitched six innings in the win and allowed eight hits and two earned runs with five strikeouts. Dylan Guy threw the final inning and had one strikeout.
Offensively, Keegan Garis was 3-for-4 with five runs batted in, while Bryan Belo was 3-for-4 and Cameron Nagel was 2-for-3 with three runs scored.
In the loss, Andrew Morlen had a home run for the lone Laker tally.
Errors hurt Lake Land as Matt Dinkel allowed only one earned run in 4 1/3 innings. He also allowed five hits and had four strikeouts. Nash Mose allowed just one hit and one earned run in 3 1/3 innings with four strikeouts.
Isaiah Hart was 4-for-7 across both games .
Lake Land, 10-8 overall and 2-4 in the GRAC, had its scheduled game with Vincenness moved from Tuesday to Wednesday at 3 p.m. Eastern at Vincennes. The Lakers also changed their Region 24 series with Wabash Valley to Saturday at Wabash Valley and Sunday at Lake Land in noon doubleheaders.
