The Lake Land softball team swept a doubleheader Saturday against Southeastern Illinois College in non-conference contests.
The Lakers won 8-0 and 6-1 and have now won 16 consecutive games.
Lake Land is 20-4 overall and 10-0 in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference.
In the first game, Lake Land scored three in the second and five in the third while Rachel Kauffman allowed just one hit with 10 strikeouts.
Tyanna Graber had three hits and two runs batted for the Lakers.
In the second game, Lake Land trailed 1-0 before taking the lead for good with a five-run second. Marea Makama had two hits for the Lakers, while Krysten Darrough drove in two runs.
Claire Maulding had four strikeouts and allowed one run across four innings for the win, while Tori Hauge pitched the last two innings and had three strikeouts. Maulding is now 6-0.
During the winning streak, Lake Land is averaging a 10-2 margin of victory. The Lakers are now 14-0 at Laker Field.
Lakers baseball wins two
HARRISBURG – The Lake Land baseball team nipped Southeastern Illinois College 2-1 in the first game and then dominated the second game in winning 16-6 to improve to 9-7 overall and 3-3 in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference.
Jason Brulport went 5-for7 and drove in four runs across the two games.
Jacob Spitz went 3-for-5 in the second game, driving in three runs while Isaiah Hart drove in four runs.
Two local players, Jackson Nichols and Caleb Hurst, combined to three-hit Southeastern in the opener. Nichols, a Mattoon High alum, struck out seven over four innings and Hurst, a Charleston High alum, fanned three over the final three innings.
