Lake Land left-hander Keegan McCarty struck out 12, scattered three hits and allowed one earned run across 6.2 inning in the Lakers’ 10-2 baseball victory over Jefferson College in Jacksonville.

Jefferson College defeated the Lakers 5-1 in 12 innings in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader.

Jacob Walker drilled a three-run homer on the first pitch he saw in the second inning and drove in four total runs in the opener for the Lakers, now 3-1.

“I am very impressed with the way our pitching has thrown,” Lake Land coach Julio Godinez said. “We had 28 strikeouts in 19 innings; that’s saying something.”

The Lakers’ Matt Dinkel struck out eight and allowed one earned run in the second game while teammate Joseph Batusich ripped two doubles and had one RBI.

“In game two, we put ourselves in situations to win the ball game,” Godinez said. “I think we left a small country on the bases, but the ball just never dropped. Today was exciting to be around and watch our guys compete. Playing five extra innings brings you a bit of playoff type feel.”
