Mallory Ramage and Delainey Bryant combined for 52 points to power Mattoon to a 58-44 victory over host Taylorville on Saturday.
Ramage and Bryant also delivered all 19 points in a decisive third quarter. Ahead by only a point at halftime, the Green Wave created problems for the Tornadoes with a new defensive scheme and padded its lead to 39-30 entering the final quarter. Ramage scored 10 in the quarter, Bryant added nine.
“We switched defenses in the third quarter and our players stepped up and executed,” Mattoon coach Amanda Aydt said.
Ramage converted eight of 13 field-goal attempts and two-of-six 3-pointers for 31 points. She also grabbed nine rebounds and recorded five steals.
Bryant made her only 3-point attempt and eight of 15 field goals for 21 points along with three rebounds and two steals.
Xylia Greeson snagged eight rebounds for Mattoon, which is now 4-1, a game behind Charleston in the Apollo Conference.
Mattoon travels to play Charleston on Thursday.
