Both Charleston and Mattoon girls basketball teams relied on large first-quarter leads to roll to Apollo Conference victories Monday night.

Mallory Ramage drilled three 3-pointers for 11 points in the first quarter while teammates Delainey Bryant and Chloe Pruitt contributed four points apiece to lift the Green Wave to a 19-6 lead after one quarter, an advantage they padded to 39-18 by halftime for the 70-43 win.

Charleston’s Hannah Buescher knocked down two 3-pointers to lead a balanced attack that gave the Trojans a 20-6 advantage after one quarter and a 71-46 victory. Alycia Triplett, Shae Littleford and Katarina Blase added four points apiece in the quarter. Ten players scored overall.

Shae Littleford scored a game-high 26 points on 11-of-18 shooting from two-point range along with six rebounds and five steals to help the Trojans (3-0) remain undefeated through three games. CHS has outscored opponents by an average of 62-41.

Alycia Triplett scored 12 points, grabbed nine rebounds, blocked four shots and recorded four steals for Mattoon, now 2-1. Buescher scored 12 points and had five rebounds.

Ramage and Bryant combined for 46 of Mattoon’s points. Ramage scored 24, grabbed six rebounds and recorded four steals. Bryant had 22 points, six rebounds and three assists.
