Mattoon’s Callan Haldersen fired an 81 to take second in Wednesday’s Class 2A IHSA Regional in Decatur.
Haldorsen advances to compete in next Tuesday’s IHSA sectional tournament at the University of Illinois course in Savoy.
The young Green Wave squad finished sixth in the eight-team tournament, compiling 422 total strokes. Quincy took first at 339, followed by Springfield (363) and Glenwood (366).
Haldorsen countered a triple-bogey on the 487-yard par-5 No. 2 with two birdies on the front nine – on the 164-yard par-3 No. 8 and on the 342-yard par-4 No. 9 – to remain even with Quincy’s Laci Novossi at 40 on the Red Tail Golf Course.
The senior had trouble on the 480-yard par-5 No. 14 where she posted a double-bogey, but she also recorded five pars on the back nine.
Novossi, meanwhile, played the last nine holes at 1-over, carding two birdies, five pars and two bogeys to finish at 77 for the individual title.
Senior Xylie Greeson shot 110, followed by sophomore Carrigan Hyland (112) and three teammates who posted 119s – freshman Julia Morton, sophomore Berit Haldersen and freshman Piper Sanders.
