Three Mattoon cross country runners broke 17 minutes to lead the Green Wave to a boys tri-meet victory over Urbana and Danville.
MHS’s Brock Davee clocked in at 16 minutes, 2.38 seconds across the mostly gravel three-mile course in Urbana to take first place. Teammate Sam Ferrar finished in 16:31.4 for second, followed by Trent Hettinger in 16:57.52.
The Green Wave compiled 27 points to beat Urbana by nine. Danville had 78 points.
Kylie Haacke won the girls race by 45 seconds, completing the course in 19:24.26. Mattoon’s Ashley and Chloe Jobe took seventh and eighth in 23:02 and 23:18, respectively.
The Green Wave girls took second, finishing with 43 points, nine behind Danville.
Garrett leads 1-2-3 finish for CHS girls
Megan Garrett led a Charleston charge in a tri-meet against Altamont and Dietrich, taking first across the 2.9-mile course at the Ballard Nature Center.
Garrett finished more than a minute ahead of her closest competitor, finishing in 20:08. Teammates Ila Richter (21:45) and Lilly Long (23:04) took second and third to help the Trojans place first as a team.
Luca Carcasi won the boys race in 18:10 while Adam Rudibaugh took third in 19:10.
