Romine shoots even par to pace MHS boys golf
Colton Romine fired an even-par 36, and teammates Meade Johnson and Blaine Powers shot 38s to power Mattoon to a 153-174 victory over Champaign Central at Meadowview Golf Course on Wednesday.
Romine countered bogeys by making birdies on holes Nos. 2, 3 and 9.
“This is where I envisioned us at this point in the season,” Mattoon coach Bill Behrends said. “We have five guys that are all capable of shooting in the 30s, and I think we are on the verge of putting that together.”
Druin almost broke 40 as well, but a bad break on the final hole led to a double-bogey on the ninth hole.
Stewart Druin posted a 41 on the front nine holes to complete the team score. In addition, James Shamdin carded a 44, followed by Evan Diedrich at 48.
Wade Schacht posted the low score for Central at 39.
In the JV match, Colton Probst carded a 46 and Slater Trier shot 48 in a 177-194 loss to Sullivan.
