CMS’s Ava Goble struck out 11 on Thursday.

Ava Goble overpowered Paris Crestwood, striking out 11 and allowing only a two-out single in the first inning to lead Charleston Middle to another rout in girls softball on Thursday.

The Trojans had defeated Teutopolis Junior High by the same 12-0 score Wednesday in their season opener when Emma Morecraft and Railyn Cox combined for a two-hitter. Morecraft struck out six, walked one and allowed two hits across four innings and Cox struck out all three batters she faced in the fifth of the run-rule shortened game

“Pitching has been great so far,” said Charleston Middle softball coach Blain Mayhall.

Avery Beals collected four hits and scored four times to spark an offense that had 14 total hits Wednesday, a day after rapping 10 hits.

Goble, Brie Tomlinson, Lilly Gannaway and Railyn Cox contributed two hits apiece.
