The accolades from this season continue to come in for Lake Land College women’s basketball.
Dave Johnson has now been named co-Coach of the Year by the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association. He shares the award with Kankakee Community College coach Donnie Denson.
“I am extremely happy for Coach Johnson and the Laker women’s basketball team,” Lake Land athletic director Bill Jackson said. “This is a great honor for a special team and coach.”
Johnson is one of 15 women’s coaches honored from state schools in the NCAA, NAIA, and NJCAA.
Lake Land went 30-3, finished second in the GRAC, going 16-2 while winning the Region 24 tournament, and earned the No. 4 seed in the NJCAA National Tournament before it was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The team also included a 1st Team All-American in Carsyn Fearday. They earned the fourth seed in the tournament.
“I’m honored to receive this award. I share this award with the players and my assistants,” Johnson said. “We had such a fun and enjoyable season. The players were so focused and energetic that it made my job easy. It was a record setting season and one that I will remember not only for the success but for the players and coaches involved.”
