Lake Land’s Rachel Kaufman recorded the wins in both games Thursday, and she also ripped a grand slam in the opener.

The Lake Land College softball team scored 30 runs on 26 hits and eight Southwestern Illinois errors on the way to sweeping the Blue Storm by scores of 13-2 and 17-6 on Thursday evening.

In the opener, the Lakers (17-4) scored seven runs in the first two innings, coasting to a win in a game halted by the run-rule after five innings. Rachel Kaufman delivered the big blow with a grand slam that accounted for four of the five runs in the first inning.

Kaitlyn Scheitler drilled a solo homer in the second that would prove to be more than enough for Kaufman, who allowed two runs struck out four and scattered four hits across four innings. Kaufman improved to 7-3.

Frankie Izard, Scheitler, and Kaufman all had multihit games.

Abby Brundmeier hit a homer for Southwestern Illinois while Elizabeth Millner (0-1) took the loss.

The Lakers once again jumped ahead in the second game, scoring 11 runs across the first three innings. This time, the Blue Storm responded by scoring six to trail 11-6 after three innings.

The Lakers added six insurance runs in the fifth and sixth innings, once again shortening the game.

This time the big hits came in the form of run-scoring doubles by Emmy Graver and Mackensie Brown, a triple by Izard, and a solo home run by Kyrsten Darrough. Izard, Darrough, Graver, and Amaya Eubanks all recorded multiple hits and Brundmeier hot another home run.

Kaufman once again earned the win after allowing just one run and striking out four across 3.1 innings of relief of Macy Clark.

The loss was charged to Emmy Allsman, dropping her record to 1-2.

The Lakers play Saturday when they host Frontier Community College in a doubleheader beginning at noon.
