Lake Land College softball continued its torrid offensive pace, scoring 22 runs over two games in sweeping by Cleveland State, 12-2 and 10-6, on Sunday.
The Lakers scored 12 runs across the third through fifth innings to end by the run rule. Sidney Beier hit her third home run and second in the last three games to pace the Lakers. Four of the Lakers’ seven hits were for extra bases. Rachel Kaufman earned the win by allowing four hits and two runs and sriking out three to improve to 6-3.
Kaitlyn Scheitler (2) and Tyanna Graber (3) each slammed home runs to drive in four of the Lakers’ 10 runs in the second game. Six of Lake Land’s 13 hits went for extra bases. Scheitler walked twice, scored three times and went 2-for-2. Emmy Graver drove in two runs batted two doubles.
Abrienne Lee gave up one hit and one run in 2.2 innings to earn the win, while striking out two and walking one to remain unbeaten at 6-0.
The Lakers (15-4) travel to play GRAC foe Southwestern Illinois College in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. on Thursday.
Lake Land dropped five spots to No. 19 in the national NJCAA Division I softball poll after going 3-1 last weekend.
